USA TODAY - Protesters took to the streets Wednesday in at least 10 cities to march against president-elect Donald Trump - and numerous college students and faculty leaders took to social media to announce support groups and even postponed exams.

Protests were underway in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C., Portland, Ore., St. Paul, Minn. and several other cities. An estimated 2,000 protesters shouted angrily in downtown Seattle, expressing their frustration at the Trump victory over Democrat and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who won 228 electoral votes to Trump's 279.

Police in riot gear struggled to hold back scores of protesters in some of the cities as protesters chanted "Not My President" and "No Racist USA." The protests were mostly peaceful. Seattle police said they were investigating a report of a shooting near the site of the protest in that city, but it may not have involved protesters.

In Los Angeles, protesters poured into the streets near City Hall and torched a giant Trump effigy, the Los Angeles Times reported. Later in the night, hundreds marched onto the busy 101 Freeway which brought the highway to a complete standstill. The California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department —who urged protesters to remain lawful and peaceful — responded and were seen leading demonstrators away from the busy highway.  At least 13 people were later arrested, LAPD Officer Tony Im told the Los Angeles Times.

In Washington, D.C., hundreds took to the streets carrying signs saying “Nasty Women Fight Back” and “White Males for Equality for All.”

The unrest culminated when two separate anti-Trump demonstrations converged in front of the Trump International Hotel. They chanted and yelled "Impeach Donald Trump” and toward the end yelled at police officers who stood guard at the hotel entrance.
In New York, thousands of demonstrators blocked off streets around Trump Tower near the busy intersection of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, chanting "hey hey, ho ho, Donald Trump has got to go" and "p---y grabs back," a reference to taped conversations of Trump making lewd commentary about women. One woman protester was topless while another climbed on top of a tree to see the activity. Taxis, city buses and passenger vehicles stood at a standstill.

"We're (mad) so we're out here in the streets," said demonstrator Omar Aqeel, a 27-year-old film producer who lives in Brooklyn.

While he and other demonstrators said they were aware that protests could not reverse the election, they said they still felt it would have an effect on the future.

"I hope it rallies everyone together as a wake up call," Aqeel said.

"I think there's a chance for impeachment at the end of the day," said protester Joey Henriquez, a 22-year-old student at the City College of New York, who lives in Manhattan. "We can't let him have eight years."

In Boston, thousands of anti-Donald Trump protesters streamed through downtown, chanting "Trump's a racist" and carrying signs that said "Impeach Trump" and "Abolish Electoral College."
In Chicago, several hundreds of protesters gathered near the Trump International Hotel and Tower to express their displeasure with the president-elect.

The protesters held signs with messages such as "Love Trumps Hate," "Not My President " and expletive-laden repudiations.

Chloe Stratton, 33, a transgendered woman who moved to Chicago earlier this year, said she fears for what a Trump-Pence White House holds for the nation's LGBT community.

Pence has opposed same-sex marriage and expressed support for shock therapy for people with same-sex attractions.

"I am terrified for my life," said Stratton, who added that she has begun exploring options to move away from the U.S.

Police said five people were arrested in Chicago over the course of the protest on minor charges—two for obstructing traffic, one for criminal trespass, one for reckless conduct, and one for criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
Just last week, the Democrat-controlled Chicago's city council voted to remove honorary signage near Trump's building, a rebuke for the president-elect's blistering criticism of crime in the city while he was on the stump.

On Wednesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel insisted he did not fear that Trump would exact any payback on the city over the move.

"I'm not worried about Donald Trump trying to somehow penalize Chicago, " said Emanuel, who served as President Obama's first White House chief of staff.

Earlier Wednesday, protesters at American University burned U.S. flags on campus.

In Oregon, dozens of people blocked traffic in downtown Portland, burned American flags and forced a delay for trains on two light-rail lines. Trump supporters taunted the demonstrators with signs.  At one point, a lone Trump supporter was chased across Pioneer Courthouse Square and hit in the back with a skateboard before others intervened.
An estimated 6,000 protesters gathered Wednesday night in Oakland, Calif. Videos on social media captured fires erupting as the protests rolled on.

Across the country, universities and even a few high schools organized post-election civil disobedience of a different sort. Some teachers sent notes to students postponing tests and offering support. Student unions offered sessions of meditation, discussions and tea.

"The nation in which you currently reside decided last night to elect a president whose own words have painted him a moral and possibly physical hazard to many of us," University of Maryland professor Alan Peel wrote to students, postponing all assessments. "I debated whether to press on today in the spirit of re-establishing normalcy, but have come to realize that my position and my background may have afforded me the privilege to do so. Others may find they do not have that privilege."

"Partisan, inflammatory statements unfortunately seem to be part of modern campaign rhetoric, but they cause real wounds," Northwestern University wrote in an email to students Wednesday, reminding them to notify professors if they need to miss class. The email directed students to the campus Multicultural Center, the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center and The Black House, a gathering place for the university's black community. Throughout the day the campus hosted a “What’s Your Reaction” event for students to express themselves by drawing pictures. They even provided the paper, markers and snacks.

The University of California, Berkeley created safe spaces for minority students, and for those who might be illegal immigrants. There are also special "healing spaces" for women and those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

"Be gentle with yourselves and take care of each other," according to an email sent to Berkeley students from four of the university's vice chancellors and others. "We know that the results of yesterday's election have sparked fear and concern among many in our community; in particular our immigrant and undocumented communities, Muslim, African American, Chicanx/Latinx, LGBTQ+, Asian and Pacific Islander communities, survivors of sexual assault, people with disabilities, women, and many others."

At the University of Vermont, administrators voiced a similar sentiment. "This is a challenging time for many of our colleagues and students, who may be feeling isolated and concerned for personal welfare," UVM president Tom Sullivan wrote in an email to the university community, offering time for tea and reflections, meditations and structured discussion.

The Boston Latin School, a high school in Boston, offered a support team of guidance counselors, clinicians, and nurses after school Wednesday and before school Thursday for students who need support, according to an email sent to the school community.

Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland had an election debriefing with counselors during students' lunch, according to a tweet sent by the school's principal.

Prison Planet.com - The Bilderberg Group plans to put the finishing touches to a global carbon tax agenda that is already in full swing, according to our inside sources, with the threat of endangered species set to replace man-made global warming as the main vehicle through which the elite’s post-industrial revolution is accomplished.

Alex Jones’ source inside Bilderberg has told him that the secretive cabal still plans to use the World Bank as the collection agency for a global CO2 tax. World Bank head Robert Zoellick is in attendance at this year’s confab in Chantilly, Virginia according to the official attendee list.

Numerous representatives of the environmental movement are attending Bilderberg this year to help push this agenda through, including Fred Krupp, president of the Environmental Defense Fund, a group that generates revenue in the name of fighting climate change and yet is tied at the hip with some of the biggest corporations on the planet, including McDonald’s and FedEx.

Echoing UN reports which call for a similar shift, the widely discredited man-made climate mantra will largely be dispensed in favor of centralizing power through other means, particularly by using the pretext of endangered species and overpopulation.

The onset of a global carbon tax is already underway in numerous countries. In Australia, businesses are being threatened with fines of up to $1.1 million dollars if they even dare to criticize the carbon tax set to be implemented on July 1st.

Meanwhile, a carbon tax in Europe imposed since the start of the year charges airlines emissions fees for all flights that cross the continent, costs that are inevitably set to be passed on to consumers.

As we reported earlier this week, Agenda 21 is set to be a centerpiece of Bilderberg discussion, with the attendance of Alberta Premier and global warming alarmist Alison Redford at this year’s confab to discuss “ecological issues.”

The United Nations’ Agenda 21 project demands that member nations adopt “sustainable development” policies that are little more than a disguise for the reintroduction of neo-feudalism and only serve to reduce living standards and quality of life.

As part of this takeover, our source informs us that Bilderberg are keen on fully enforcing the United Nations’ Law of the Sea treaty, which would hand the global body control over all U.S. oceans and force ships to pay a tariff directly to the UN.

The true motivation behind the post-industrial society being pushed by Bilderberg was recently unveiled at the‘Planet Under Pressure’ conference in London, during which climate change alarmists presented their blueprint for humans to be packed into denser cities so that the rest of the planet can be surrendered to mother nature.

This process is already well underway in California where laws passed to mitigate car use and carbon dioxide emissions have led to policies that mandate up to 30 homes be built on a single acre of land.

It’s a similar idea to the nightmare ‘Planned-Opolis’ proposal put out by the Forum for the Future organization last year, in which human activity will be tightly regulated by a dictatorial technocracy in the name of saving the planet, with cars for personal use banned and only accessible to members of the elite.

Infowars.com - The World Wildlife Fund has released a report which calls for all carbon emissions to be banned by 2050 and for the entire human population to live in a state of poverty in the name of preserving rare species and saving the planet.
“Extremist green campaigning group WWF – endorsed by no less a body than the European Space Agency – has stated that economic growth should be abandoned, that citizens of the world’s wealthy nations should prepare for poverty and that all the human race’s energy should be produced as renewable electricity within 38 years from now. Most astonishingly of all, the green hardliners demand that the enormous numbers of wind farms, tidal barriers and solar powerplants required under their plans should somehow be built while at the same time severely rationing supplies of concrete, steel, copper and glass,” reports the Register.
The World Wildlife Fund’s new report, entitled Living Planet Report for 2012, cites its own narrowly defined and agenda-driven ‘Living Planet Index’ to claim that the “overall state of global biodiversity” is in crisis and that rare species like tigers (presumably not including the ones shot dead by WWF President Prince Philip), are in decline because humans in richer countries enjoy too high living standards.

According to the WWF, humans in developed nations are abusing their “ecological footprint” and using more “biocapacity” than they have. The only people operating within their allotted “biocapacity” are poor people in impoverished countries.

The solution? The organization wants to see “inequality adjusted human development” rather than economic development. Or put another way, the answer is focused around “drastically shrinking the ecological footprint of high income populations”.

This is merely a regurgitation of the post-industrial revolution – the planned-opolis – that Malthusian elites have been pushing for decades. Using the highly emotive propaganda offensive of rare animal species (since global warming has now largely been discredited), the WWF calls for virtually all carbon emissions to be abolished by 2050.
“For almost all of human history and prehistory we have burned things to generate energy – it is one of the things that makes us human – but now, within a single generation, that is to almost completely stop. After a million years, the fires will go out,” writes Lewis Page.
This insane drive to ban carbon emissions, the very lifeblood of human development, happiness and prosperity, has parallels with the Forum for the Future proposal, funded by the likes of Bank of America, Time Warner and Royal Dutch Shell, which advocated the regulation of all human activity by a scientific dictatorship which would restrict car use, impose calorie food rationing, decide people’s future careers for them, and imprison malcontents who don’t conform to the new eco-fascist system within squalid ghettos.

The WWF was founded by former Nazi and Bilderberg Group kingpin Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. Its current President Emeritus is Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Betraying his eugenicist fervor, Prince Philip has repeatedly expressed his desire to see large numbers of human beings wiped out by a deadly virus.
“In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation,” Philip told Deutsche Press Agentur in August 1988.
Philip even bemoaned the fact that medical advances had helped alleviate Sri Lanka’s crippling malaria problem in the 1980′s, brazenly lamenting the fact that less people would die.
“Sri Lanka must feed three times as many mouths, find three times as many jobs, provide three times the housing, energy, schools, hospitals and land for settlement in order to maintain the same standards. Little wonder the natural environment and wildlife in Sri Lanka has suffered. The fact [is] … that the best-intentioned aid programs are at least partially responsible for the problems,” he said during a University of Western Ontario speech in July 1983.
In the preface of his 1988 book Down to Earth, Philip spoke of his desire to see humans “culled” through means of population control.
“I don’t claim to have any special interest in natural history, but as a boy I was made aware of the annual fluctuations in the number of game animals and the need to adjust the “cull” to the size of the surplus population,” he wrote.
Prince Philip’s brazen bloodlust to see humans culled in large numbers betrays the real agenda behind the WWF’s touchy-feely “green” veneer.

The true purpose of the organization is to advance the arcane, authoritarian, and oppressive pseudo-science of eugenics behind the thin veil of environmental advocacy.

Urban OS Sensor System Could Soon Be Running Entire Cities

The Engineer - A new system of widely distributed sensors could soon be responsible for running entire cities. 

Dubbed Urban OS, the system relies on the devices placed in the urban environment to provide data and analyse events in order to keep buildings, traffic and services running smoothly.

Living PlanIT, the company behind Urban OS, claims its technology will make cities more efficient and environmentally sensitive.

The sensors monitor everything from large-scale traffic flows to the temperature of an individual room. The Urban OS then manages communication between sensors without any human input.
John Stenlake, chief technology officer at Living PlanIT, said:
‘We’re a technology company producing a software platform that enables an ecosystem to deliver better results, such as more sustainable buildings and infrastructure.
‘One example scenario of how our system could benefit a city is its ability to provide detailed information to a fire crew, which will then be able to deal with an incident much more effectively when it gets there.
‘The system will top up the water mains so that there is sufficient pressure; control traffic management systems in order to keep other traffic out of the way; and unlock doors and windows.
‘By joining up a few simple things like this, you can literally save minutes, which can ultimately save lives.’
Stenlake explained that the system has been designed so that there is more than one level of equipment that can take over in case of a failure.

High sensor densities mean that the system is never reliant on a single sensor or sensor type. He said that the system can also display evacuation messages on smart walls, LED clusters and input panel screens.

The underlying technology for the Urban OS has been developed by McLaren Electronic Systems, which has also created an extensive set of application services that will run Urban OS. These applications have been dubbed ‘PlaceApps’ and they are the urban-environment equivalent of apps on a smartphone.
Steve Lewis, Living PlanIT’s chief executive officer, told the BBC that, eventually, applications on smartphones could hook into the Urban OS to remotely control household appliances and energy systems.
Living PlanIT intends to implement its initial operating system in Paredes, a municipality close to Porto, Portugal. The total cost of this project is expected to be between €8bn and €10bn (£7bn and £8.6bn).
Stenlake said:
‘[Lewis] saw an opportunity to develop the Living PlanIT idea and was looking for a place to build this prototype/R&D facility in city form. It was a large area of high-quality land where both local and national governments were looking to attract inward investment.
‘Also, there is a labour pool that consists of some very high-quality graduates who have studied technology and science subjects. It was the perfect storm of provisioning and opportunity,’ he explained.
There are also projects in Greenwich and Wembley in the pipeline, and discussions are going on in Silicon Valley, Singapore and the Middle East.

Living PlanIT, the Portuguese smart city initiative, was selected as one of the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers of 2012.
Stenlake said:
‘We’ve been completely knocked out by the reception we’ve had with… analysts and commentators. We’re very pleased the World Economic Forum has recognised the value of what we’re doing.’

Smart Cities Get Their Own Operating System

Smart cities with devices chatting to each other may dot the planet in the near future

BBC - Cities could soon be looking after their citizens all by themselves thanks to an operating system designed for the metropolis. The Urban OS works just like a PC operating system but keeps buildings, traffic and services running smoothly.

The software takes in data from sensors dotted around the city to keep an eye on what is happening.
The idea is for the Urban OS to gather data from sensors buried in buildings and many other places to keep an eye on what is happening in an urban area. The sensors monitor everything from large scale events such as traffic flows across the entire city down to more local phenomena such as temperature sensors inside individual rooms.

The OS completely bypasses humans to manage communication between sensors and devices such as traffic lights, air conditioning or water pumps that influence the quality of city life. 

Channelling all the data coming from these sensors and services into a over-arching control system had lots of benefits, said Steve Lewis, head of Living PlanIT - the company behind Urban OS.
Urban OS should mean buildings get managed better and gathering the data from lots of sources gives a broader view of key city services such as traffic flows, energy use and water levels.
"If you were using an anatomy analogy, the city has a network like the nervous system, talking to a whole bunch of sensors gathering the data and causing actions," said Mr Lewis.
"We distribute that nervous system into the parts of the body - the buildings, the streets and other things.
Having one platform managing the entire urban landscape of a city means significant cost savings, implementation consistency, quality and manageability, he added.
"And it's got local computing capacity to allow a building or an automotive platform to interact with people where they are, managing the energy, water, waste, transportation, logistics and human interaction in those areas."
The underlying technology for the Urban OS has been developed by McLaren Electronic Systems - the same company that creates sensors for Formula One cars. The Urban OS was unveiled at the Machine-2-Machine conference in Rotterdam. 

To support the myriad of different devices in a city the firm has developed an extensive set of application services that will run Urban OS, dubbed PlaceApps - the urban environment equivalent of apps on a smartphone.

Independent developers will also be able to build their own apps to get at data and provide certain services around a city.

Mr Lewis said that eventually applications on smartphones could hook into the Urban OS to remotely control household appliances and energy systems, or safety equipment to monitor the wellbeing of elderly people.

It could also prove useful in the event of a fire in a building, he said. In the event of a fire the Urban OS might manage traffic lights so fire engines can reach the blaze swiftly. Sensors would spot the fire and then the building would use its intelligence to direct people inside to a safe stairwell, perhaps by making lights flicker or alarms get louder in the direction of the exit.
"That's dealt with by the building itself, with the devices very locally talking to each other to figure out what's the best solution for the current dilemma, and then providing directions and orchestrating themselves," said Mr Lewis.
'Magical actions'
 
Living PlanIT is working with Cisco and Deutsche Telekom on different parts of the system.
Markus Breitbach of the Machine to Machine Competence Center at Deutsche Telekom said that his firm was helping to bring all the parts of the Urban OS together.
"Everybody's talking about 50 billion connected devices, which effectively means huge amounts of data being collected, but nobody is really caring about managing it and bringing it into a context - and Urban OS can do just that," he said.
"If there's a fire alarm on the fifth floor and the elevator is going to the next floor, the light will switch on - but in addition the traffic lights will be switched accordingly to turn the traffic in the right direction so that fire workers can get through.
"And this is what Urban OS is providing, this kind of solution to analyse mass data, enter it in a context and perform magical actions."
A test bed for the Urban OS is currently being built in Portugal. For its work in developing smart cities, Living PlanIT was selected as one of the World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneers of 2012.

Planned-opolis and Agenda 21

The tightly planned and controlled world envisioned by the powers that be will force people to live in a “planned-opolis,” where car use will be heavily restricted, CO2 emissions will be rationed, meat will be considered a rare delicacy, the state will decide your career, and only the mega-rich elitists enforcing all these new rules and regulations will be exempt from them. Food and water will be regulated and rationed by a “Global Food Council” which seizes total control over farming. The state will decide what your job will be with “designated career announcements;” nobody will have the choice to decide their own vocation. Movement and behavior will be controlled by a calorie credit card linked to a smart phone that rations the amount of travel the citizens are allowed to make. Private ownership of cars will be banned for non-elitists because “the state knows they just aren’t practical anymore.” The agenda for eco-fascism knows no bounds — despite the fact that global warming has been completely discredited as a contrived fraud based on pseudo-science, corruption and agenda-driven politics. Its adherents are relentlessly forging ahead with their horrifying vision of a future where the middle classes are eviscerated and everyone — besides, of course, the elitists imposing the tyranny — is forced to reduce their living standard and become subservient to an all-pervading state that enforces high-tech slavery under the excuse of a green revolution. For those who resist and still cling to some semblance of freedom in defiance of the state and the super-computers running the slave grid, there’s the “cry freedom ghetto,” prison camps for malcontents who are blocked from getting jobs and accessing high speed transport or the Internet. In a chilling throwback to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany, the propaganda piece chillingly invokes the notion of families being separated because some people refuse to submit to state-imposed green fascism. The World is Expected to Spend $30 Trillion on Green Infrastructure

The United Nations' Agenda 21 action plan is Sustainable Development. Vigilant Citizen - Funded by corporations such as Bank of America, the City of London Corporation, PepsiCo UK, Time Warner, Royal Dutch Shell and Vodafone, Forum for the Future envisions scenarios for cities in 2040.

No, this is not a sarcastic video. It is a real, serious scenario.
To sum up:
  • Food and water is regulated and rationed by a “Global Food Council” which seizes total control over farming. Meat is a rare treat only to be enjoyed on special occasions

  • The state decides what your job will be with “designated career announcements,” nobody has the choice to decide their own vocation

  • Movement and behavior is controlled by a calorie credit card linked to a smart phone that rations the amount of travel the citizens of planned-opolis, are allowed to make. Private ownership of cars will be banned for non-elitists because, “the state knows they just aren’t practical anymore.”

  • “It makes so much sense doesn’t it,” insists the smiley faced slave “Vee,” who enjoys the fact that she can “switch off brain and go to work,” adding, “With this many people around I’m glad there’s a mega-computer in charge.”

Elite Openly Flaunts Plan to Turn Cities into High-Tech Slave Grids

Infowars.com - Not content with depicting children being slaughtered in the name of preventing non-existent global warming, climate change alarmists have embarked on a new propaganda campaign lecturing us all about how we will be forced to live in a “planned-opolis,” where car use will be heavily restricted, CO2 emissions will be rationed, meat will be considered a rare delicacy, the state will decide your career, and only the mega-rich elitists enforcing all these new rules and regulations will be exempt from them.

Browbeating us about how the only solution to expensive fossil fuels is to enforce a “tightly planned and controlled” system, the infomercial (funded in part by oil companies like Royal Dutch Shell), goes on to tell the story of what life will be like in 2040 through the words and actions of a subservient, obedient slave named “Vee” who dutifully acquiesces to the necessity of the new way of things.
Even as Britain shivers under its coldest December in 100 years, and as places as far flung as Southern China suffer unprecedented bouts of freezing rain and cold weather and as the onset of a new mini ice age causes mass die-offs of sea life, the entire piece, produced by the Forum for the Future group, is veiled in debunked rhetoric about CO2 emissions causing rising temperatures.
We soon begin to learn what living in the new “planned-opolis” will look like — food and water is regulated and rationed by a “Global Food Council” which seizes total control over farming. Meat is a rare treat only to be enjoyed on special occasions (mirroring precisely the conditions endured by those in Maoist China).
The state decides what your job will be with “designated career announcements,” nobody has the choice to decide their own vocation.

“It makes so much sense doesn’t it,” insists the smiley faced slave “Vee,” who enjoys the fact that she can “switch off brain and go to work,” adding, “With this many people around I’m glad there’s a mega-computer in charge.”
Of course, for those who resist and still cling to some semblance of freedom in defiance of the state and the super-computers running the slave grid, there’s the “cry freedom ghetto,” prison camps for malcontents who are blocked from getting jobs, accessing high speed transport or the Internet.
In a chilling throwback to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany, the propaganda piece chillingly invokes the notion of families being separated because some people refuse to submit to state-imposed green fascism. This is a subtle yet shocking insight into the true motivation of the makers of this piece — they can barely contain their wanton revulsion towards freedom and their fascist tendencies.
The Forum for the Future Organization derives its funding from a combination of taxpayer money, via local governments, as well as monolithic corporations and large banks.
Some of its financial backers include Bank of America, the City of London Corporation, PepsiCo UK, Time Warner, and crucially Royal Dutch Shell — which of course is one of the biggest emitters of CO2 on the planet.
In other words, an organization lecturing the little people about how only the mega-rich will be able to drive cars and eat meat in 30 years in order to reduce CO2 emissions is largely funded by mega-rich banks and multinational corporations, as well as oil companies.
This is nothing less than Orwell’s 1984 and then some — a chilling nightmare scenario where all freedom is crushed in the name of protecting mother earth. But of course, this has nothing to do with saving the environment, the whole thing is funded by multinational corporations and giant banks, and yet the idiot “liberals” over at the Guardian website wholeheartedly agree that rationing, government control of mobility and food, the state deciding your career, cars being banned for all but the rich, and resistors forced to live in abandoned ghettos is a reasonable and rational course of action.
The agenda for eco-fascism knows no bounds — despite the fact that global warming has been completely discredited as a contrived fraud based on pseudo-science, corruption and agenda-driven politics, its adherents are relentlessly forging ahead with their horrifying vision of a future where the middle classes are eviscerated and everyone — besides of course the elitists imposing the tyranny — is forced to reduce their living standard and become subservient to an all-pervading state that enforces high-tech slavery under the excuse of a green revolution.
Banning incandescent light bulbs and introducing carbon taxes is only the beginning — if we let these parasites have their way with us we’ll all be living in their purpose built slave-opolis before we know it.

“Planned-opolis” Cities Already Being Tested in South Korea

Old-Thinker News - In 2008 Old-Thinker News reported on the deployment of Ubiquitous Computing technology in South Korea as a testing ground for future development of cities world-wide.
South Korea was chosen for the test because, in the words of the city’s developers, “There is an historical expectation of less privacy.” Recent attention has been given to plans for “planned-opolis” cities — as presented by Embarq, Vodafone and others — that are rigidly controlled to “cut greenhouse gases,” and where travel is tightly restricted. As reported in 2008,
“South Korea is at the forefront in implementing ubiquitous technology. An entire city, New Songdo, is being built in South Korea that fully utilizes the technology. Ubiquitous computing proponents in the United States admit that while a large portion of the technology is being developed in the U.S., it is being tested in South Korea where there are less traditional, ethical and social blockades to prevent its acceptance and use.”
As the New York Times reports,
“Imagine public recycling bins that use radio-frequency identification technology to credit recyclers every time they toss in a bottle; pressure-sensitive floors in the homes of older people that can detect the impact of a fall and immediately contact help; cellphones that store health records and can be used to pay for prescriptions.
These are among the services dreamed up by industrial-design students at California State University, Long Beach, for possible use in New Songdo City, a large “ubiquitous city” being built in South Korea.
Much of this technology was developed in U.S. research labs, but there are fewer social and regulatory obstacles to implementing them in Korea,” said Mr. Townsend [a research director at the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, California], who consulted on Seoul’s own U-city plan, known as Digital Media City. “There is an historical expectation of less privacy. Korea is willing to put off the hard questions to take the early lead and set standards.”
The “U-City” model is the standard that will be followed in future development. Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, Bill Gates’ Microsoft Corporation is involved with the technological development of South Korea’s U-Cities. As reported,
“Microsoft Corp. will play a key role in creating a ubiquitous computing environment for future citizens and businesses of Songdo International Business District (IBD).”
Additionally, IBM’s “Smarter Planet” initiative is at the forefront of the push for a planned-opolis future.
