24-Year Old Veteran Survives Two Tours of Duty in Iraq Only to be Injured on U.S. Soil by Police During Occupy Oakland Protest

A protester shows his wound after the police shot him with a rubber bullet while he helped carry injured Marine Scott Olsen of Occupy Oakland. The bullet had to be removed from his body. The Oakland police violated their own rules, and violated the Geneva Convention against targeting wounded combatants or those attempting to render medical aid. Amnesty International has condemned the use of tear gas as well as the actions of Mayor Jean Quan of Oakland, who said the measures were justified because protesters threw rocks. The Obama administration and Eric Holder have shown no interest in investigating. [Source]

A poster at Occupy Marines Facebook makes the following comment: "You can see Scott Olsen standing, with his BACK TOWARDS THE COPS moments before being shot. Watch closely - the guy who shot him can be seen backing away from the fence and lowering his shotgun (he must have been less than 5 feet from Scott when he shot him in the head). He then goes behind two other cops and THROWS THE FLASH BANG himself at the people trying to save them. The other two cops don’t move, but this guy steps back and then forward just as the flash bang is tossed. The same guy shot him and then tossed the grenade at the people trying to save him." - Scott Olsen Was Shot In The Head Intentionally From Less Than 10 Feet By The Same Officer Who Threw The Flash Grenade (Video), The Daily Bail, The Daily Bail

The injured man is Scott Olsen, a Marine Corps veteran twice deployed to Iraq and member of Veterans for Peace. He is in the hospital now in stable but serious condition with a fractured skull, struck by a police projectile (believed to be a tear gas cannister) fired into the crowd. After protesters run to the aid of the injured Marine, Oakland Police deliberately throw a flash grenade into the crowd. Whatever you think of the Occupy movement, police behavior of this kind is criminal and should be prosecuted. - MAKE THIS GO VIRAL - Oakland Police Throw Grenade Into Crowd That Is Trying To Help Injured Protester
