Google is Taking Over the World

Google will probably become a company that runs the greatest part of technology in the world. They already buy any new invention they find and are behind many things that we don't know about. I think they will end up being the only supplier for technology in the world. Apple is a sinking ship and we all know it. Microsoft is doing great but Windows won't last too long, so when Google (Android) takes over the PC world they will probably buy Microsoft as well... Then there won't be much between them and "World Domination." [Source]
Urgo at Google World Domination - Every day that goes by Google becomes both more powerful and more liked. I still feel as truly as I did the day I made this prediction that they are still on course to take over the world.

My original prediction:
Posted by Urgo at December 16, 2004 11:31 PM

For the past year now I've been predicting that within the next ten Google will 'take over the world'. Most people I tell this to think I'm crazy and this will never happen, saying that Google is the best company ever and they will never turn evil. I tend to disagree.

Let me take just a few minutes to explain why I think this, and then at the bottom of this entry is a link to a flash video I found today with someone else thinking the same thing.

Facts - Google owns:
- Google is the most used search engine
- Gmail, while maybe not the most used email provider (maybe it is now?) it is definitely the most highly desired
- Orkut, while mostly blown over now is still a thriving social network site
- Google News is viewed as a #1 news site for many people
- Blogger is one of the leading blog sites and blogs are all over the news these days
- Keyhole offers a satellite imaging service
- Google Desktop Search
- Google Adsense - probably the most widely used advertising on the web these days (used even on this website although I haven't seen any return yet)
- And much much more, plus all the things normal people like myself have come up with such as the random google image in the right sidebar.

My point to all of this is the following:

Through GMail Google stores and never deletes your email. They catalog it and can do a LOT with that data. With time google can write robots to parse the data to find out every bit of data about you, who you know, what you talk about, etc.

Gmail bundled with Orkut - Google really has a solid grip on your social network with more detail and structure than email alone. Google knows who joebob62@aol.com really is, where he lives, what his passimes are, etc and can link it up with your email conversations. Now to get even further into your life they have the Google Desktop Search, which has already been called on being invasive, bypassing security on people's PC's and cataloging files that it shouldn't.

Step back for a second, Google now knows who you know, what you talk about, details about every person, everything you say on your computer, what files you have, what is in each file, basically all of your Digital Data. Oh, also if you use the google search bar (IE plug-in) in advanced mode (default.. plus ohh! I want advanced features....) they track every webpage you go, although the desktop search tool does that as well. Owned.

Next we start to see Google's current revenue. Blogs, Keyhole, Adsense. Wow, if the inflated stock doesn't make them enough $$$ then this sure helps. Although I don't believe Google charges for blogger right now, they are setting themselves up for it in the future if blogging ever takes off as a legitimate news source...

News.. Google news is one of the most used news services to gather news from many sources, sorted automatically for relevance...

Now, just think if Google DID want to turn evil (assuming they aren't already) how much of the market they already own. In the 90's people switched search engines all the time, but moving email providers, etc is a lot harder to do. In a few more years they'll have people so dependent on them and their products and, just like Microsoft, people will be stuck with Google for better or worse.

More info on Google being evil is at google-watch.

Wow, well this was supposed to be a very short blog entry promoting a clip I saw today but I had to get my rant over with. Other then the Google-watch site that’s been around for a while, today on mefi I stumbled into a 10? minute flash movie someone made giving a detailed rundown of a possible scenario that Google might take in the coming years towards world domination. I personally haven't come up with a scenario myself, and I am uncertain if this one is how its going to happen, but I was happy to see that others feel the same way as I do, that within the next ten years Google will takeover the world or in this movie, the media forcing the New York Times offline.

Please take the time to watch this movie, and ignore the somewhat cheesiness of it. I really think they are being insightful and this COULD happen.

Flash Movie of How Google Will Take Over The World

Its almost absolute and scary. It's not about the pieces of information they gather but the profile they are able to build from the sum of that info. Should one day a particular type of person become unfavorable like in the days of the Nazis you will not be able to hide they will be able to query for profiles and will know everyone who is either a part of this unfavorable group or is sympathetic to that group. If Nazis had this power then Shindler would have been on the first death camp train. Look closely at the chrome logo. [Source]

They have our data. Google has access to everyone's search information, browser history, email, GPS tracking, purchase history, and more. They have more data than a lot of other tech companies, and data is power. Besides that, they're expanding. What used to be a simple search engine is now a company that's talking about making cars, reading DNA, and more. Google knows where you are, where you live, your wants, your needs, your fears, your socioeconomic status, your driving ability, and more. In fact, with the right algorithms, they could probably figure out where the bodies are buried.

Technology giant = new form of unstoppable. The tech industry has advanced and revolutionized life as we know it, faster than any other aspect of human progress ever recorded, and while many companies have came before Google, it is only Google that has successfully predicted and ridden incoming curves and capitalized on predictions of future demand. Starting off as a mere search engine, a company leading the way in Augmented reality, driverless cars, mobile device software, cloud based computing, navigation and military/corporate/civilian data storage and analytics proves itself to be both capable and willing to use technology and it's insight to broaden its circle of operation.

They Are Immortal. Google has a service for everything. In some sort of way, they get some different kind of information about you from that service. There is nothing saying Google can't read our E-Mails, look into our search history, or even make the Google Chrome application do something to our computer. They make so much money, and have so much built up, that they will overpower any other company. Who knows? Google could be planning an uprising beneath our feet while we give them our money.

They are buying into EVERYTHING. Whenever a competing company releases a new product, Google comes out with another one but cheaper. More recently Google has made an internet browser, a laptop, an internet/TV streamer (similar to Apple TV), and is now going to buy into the travel business. They have access to everything they want and are silently taking over small industries and will eventually take over bigger things. Next thing you know there is a Google Party running for president. Google can do whatever they want because of the amount of money they have. THey will take over the world. It has already started in small ways. Just look out for the big ones because they are coming.

It's happening without you even knowing. If you have an iPhone, how many of your apps involve google? Youtube, search, Google Now, Google Maps, Gmail, Drive, etc etc. Your iPhone is apple on the outside, but on the inside, it's google. If you bought an android, google would be integrated throughout the OS seamlessly. As soon as people realize that android isn't for people who simply can't afford an iPhone, it's going to take off. Android already beats Apple in the mobile market share. Not only that, but they're prepared for the future. All of their apps are web-based. That means access them on anything with an internet connection. I say in 1-3 years, we're going to be seeing much more of android and Google has the potential to.

Google has a spirit of "Why not?". Because of this, they produce countless, amazing innovations, which they mostly release for FREE. Everybody loves FREE innovations, and looking into the ergonomic customer-friendly face of google, which really only wants to help, they can't but trust their entire lives to google. Whether they are a group of friendly nerds trying to change the world or monopolistic corporate overlord launching the most successful take over in history is up to debate. Either way google's got us by our balls. Pray our masters are merciful.

Remember the founding fathers of the USA. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington always warned the rest of their peers of the dangers that lie in the government having arbitrary powers... Which is exactly what Google as a megacorporation has right now. As so many others here have pointed out, Google knows more about us today than some of our closest friends and loved ones. Where this much knowledge and power lie, surely the evil hand of human greed and lust for power will soon reach.

It's less important, whether google will take over the world, but has google the ability to do so! We could argue and discuss so long whether google (or another company or government or something else) could take over the world. I think we should ensure that no one has the ability to to this. Than we have no risk and our freedom would be really saved for the future.

Google already has in our technology, and not only at this rate, but at their interests and accomplishments, the world will follow as well... Google is now the world's most visited website, the biggest and most popular search engine, and owns the largest and greatest video website. Over the years, Google has created products that have satisfied millions of people, especially Android, the world's most popular mobile operating system. Google has not only made some of the best products, but they have also made "out-of-the-box" ideas. They have created the self-driving car, the first successful wearable tech, and one of the best working ecosystems. With many plans that Google is making, their attitude, and their role and effect in the market, they have literally taken over the internet and many aspects of technology. As a result, it won't be a surprise if Google takes over the world.

Already Has Control. Apple is no longer relevant. Microsoft is starting to fall. Google lures people with FREE stuff (there's always a catch)-- in this case your security and privacy. Google products that are taking over: GMAIL, Google Plus, Google Apps For Education/ Business/ Government is being forced on people, Orkut, Search, Youtube, Blogger, Android, Google Docs, Earth, Maps, Drive, Chrome, Chrome OS, Wallet, Translator, etc, etc. Google is taking over the most valuable intangible resource to humanity --The INTERNET-- and when it has control over it, with all our information, humanity is screwed over by one PRIVATE company with PUBLIC/PERSONAL information! People need to start using other Softwares ASAP.

I think so, look at Glass. Google Glass will be one of their major things. It will send a transmission to your brain. I'm not joking, I'm kinda scared of it. Anyways, they will install phones directly into us (it will be a thing that they do, like 'come install a BodPhone, then you won't be able to lose your phone') and they will silence us with speech jammers.

Google is unstoppable. I'm not sure if you all have been paying attention, but Google has already planted numerous seeds in just about ever facet of society. Between phones, internet and televisions, they are just about everywhere! More importantly, when you hear "search engine", the first you think of is Google. That's major in the sense that search engines are the backbone of the internet. Let's be honest, they've already taken over.

Yes, Google will take over the world. Google will most probably take over the world because every day they are becoming more liked and more used. They also have so many really good products like plus, search, images, news, reader, blogger, youtube, droid, chrome, chromebook, gmail, drive, play, maps, calendar, translate, books, offers, wallet, shopping, finance, videos, photos, and even more.

Google taking over the world

How Google Is Taking Over The World

MensXP - Google started in 2004 with the prime motive to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible to everyone. Something we can see shaping up quite well as of today. Google started off as a search engine, scanning the internet and keeping a tab on every piece of information that was fed to it, and more.

The Initiation

Google started taking over the world when it launched Gmail, Google’s very own email service. A free-for-all service, Google’s reliability quotient and brand name garnered users by the million. In 2013, the estimated number of users of Gmail is said to be more than 600 million! Google not only has a hawk’s eye on the general info flowing on the internet, but also the ‘secure’ information that a user tends to save on their Gmail account.

Simply put, Google knows everything about you. Right from your personal address to your contact details, to your likes and dislikes. Google’s search engine not only gives you search results but also keeps an eye on what you search. This can be evident when you open your account and see ads strewn across the page that may have a faint resemblance to your browsing history.

The Espionage

Haven’t we all loved using Google Earth? It is a delight to have a look at any obscure place on earth, giving you an insight into exotic places and unchartered territories that you may never get to see. Having said that, Google Maps provides you with the solution to find your way across an alien city, reach from point A to point B, or maybe hunt a nearby restaurant.

In other words, Google knows your every move. It hasn’t just got your address through Gmail, but also has a visual eye on your whereabouts. Where you stay, where you go, what you see; Google seems to know it all. God-like? We would definitely second that.

The Penetration

Google has been playing it safe for all these years, especially with their unofficial motto they proudly proclaim to be ‘Don’t Be Evil’. We, too, shall pretentiously believe this proclamation, and see monstrosities shaping up. Google launched the Chrome in 2008, and it became an instant hit, nudging away Mozilla Firefox and becoming the most trusted internet browser in use with a usage share of 37%.

Looking chic with user-friendly navigation, Chrome took over the competition and became a big success, and by looking at the bigger picture, it was fairly evident that Google was more than keen on knowing what everyone on the internet is up to. What if you are not using Google’s search using and still accessing Yahoo Search via Google Chrome? Google still gets to keep a watch on you. Albeit, they do give an ‘Incognito Mode’ that prevents the browser from storing any history or cookies. A user would rejoice on such occasions and gladly continue surfing, but it still remains a part of Google Chrome, and by saying so, it still falls under Google’s scanner. Cheeky move? Definitely so.

The Real Game Changer

Android was Google’s next biggest inception in our daily lives. Having the capability to know your precise location with the help of a single Operating System for your smartphone was an ideal thing to do, and Google did so smartly enough. Phone-tapping maybe? Now that’s just being downright neurotic.

Google wants to take it to the next level though, and that’s precisely what they are doing with the Google Glasses. A brilliant concept in itself, Google Glasses will allow user to access data through an eyewear. An accessory of sorts, it will give you the ability to stay in touch wirelessly, hands free, while having a consistent flow of data. You can click images, shoot videos, message, and do all sorts of things with this nifty gadget. But what does that mean for Google? Having an eye on us was not enough, for now they are keen to know what we know and see what we see. We have just lent our eyes to them, and they shall amass all the information of the world from a visual point of view. Truly disturbing.

All said and done, Google are known to be a reliable source of informants, while being consistently trustworthy and secure. Yet, they are one of the biggest virtual and corporate superpowers who have all the information in the world. If Matrix-like apocalypse truly comes into being, it may very well kick off from the Silicon Valley itself!

The Many Ways in Which Google Is Trying to Take Over the World

Advertising

This is Google's bread and butter, its original sin, what keeps the lights on. The main pillars of Google's advertising business include AdWords, the simple text-based ads you're used to seeing plastered all over the internet, and AdSense, the program that delivers the ads. There's also AdMob, the mobile advertising business that Google hopes will scale as well as the rest of its ad business, and DoubleClick, the suite of ad management tools for buyers that makes all this work seamlessly. If Google had to abandon any of its businesses, this would not be it. Advertising makes up about 95 percent of the company's total revenues.

Productivity software

It's hard to decide what to call Google's many software solutions, but it's safe to say that they can be lumped together into the consumer productivity category. Its offerings include everything from Gmail to Google Calendar to Google Docs, and they're increasingly the default solution for their respective categories. Google calls the suite Google Apps and offers a free version for consumers and a paid version for businesses.

Publishing software

Google hopped on the internet self-publishing bandwagon pretty early and now owns several of the trailblazers. This includes products like Blogger, Google Sites (formerly Jotspot) and Picasa, the online photo sharing site. Eventually, they'll all likely just be Google+ features.

Operating Systems

On the desktop side of things is the company's marquee software offering, Google Chrome, which took on a whole new life in recent years with the launch of Chrome OS. Combined with productivity software, this means that you can run your entire computer on Google software and never need to come up for air. If you prefer working on your phone or tablet, Google makes the most popular mobile operating system in the world: Android.

Phones

More recently, we've seen Google break out of its pixel-heavy business model and start exploring the world of hardware. The company's most aggressive move in this direction so far was its $12.5 billion purchase of phone manufacturer Motorola Mobility in 2011. Only now are we starting to see the fruits of that labor, after Google Chairman Eric Schmidt was spotted using the rumored Motorola Moto X last week. In the past, Google has partnered with companies like HTC to build branded hardware, but the Moto X will be the first all-Google phone.

Laptops

The fun extends beyond phones. Google is also in the laptop-making business after the release of its Chromebook Pixel. The company also worked with manufacturers like Samsung and Acer on its (much cheaper) Chromebooks, which also run on Chrome OS.

Maps

It's funny to think about, but Google is also one of the world's most innovative mapping companies. One need only look as far as the many killer features in Google Maps, from Street View to the turn-by-turn directions to the newer 3D offerings. Google is also leaning hard on the possibilities of GPS to do some pretty wild mapping projects like Panoramio, a lesser known app that enables users to upload their photos with geolocation data built in. If enough people do it, Google could effectively create a 3D model of the entire planet. A lot of people would have to upload photos, though. Until then, we have Google Earth to show us around. Otherwise, there's always Google Mars.

Online Video

In a word: YouTube. Google is the proud owner of the world's largest video site, where there's much more than clips of how to put on makeup and bloopers of kids skateboarding. The site is now home to troves of professionally produced original video from around a hundred different companies, including The Onion, The Wall Street Journal and VICE. Should Google follow through with this cable TV venture, it'll be interesting to see how these countless hours of YouTube content fit into the equation.

Shopping

On its surface Google Play is just another app store, but as time goes on, it's apparent that Google wants to sell all kinds of stuff there. Beyond apps, there's now music, books, magazines, movies and even the devices you use them on. And with textbooks showing up in a big way on Google Play, it won't be long until the store offers a full education suite, too.

Payments

What good would shopping on a Google site if Google didn't have a way to handle your money? And boy does Google have a way to handle your money. Once known as Google Checkout, Google Wallet is the one-stop shop for online payments through Google and is increasingly available for use at brick and mortar outlets. Google Wallet, as the name suggests, can hold the information for all of your credit cards, debit cards, gift cards and even loyalty programs so that when you arrive at the checkout, all you need to do is swipe your phone over an NFC sensor. Unfortunately, there aren't too many of those sensors out there quite yet. Not for lack of trying on Google's part.

Social Networking

After years of trying, Google finally has a sizable social networking business thanks to Google+. Designed to work as a social layer that connects all of Google's products, Google+ has proven itself as a functional social network, though the jury is still out on whether or not it's something people actually want to use. Meanwhile, it's easy to forget that Google owns Orkut, one of the original social networks. It's big in Brazil.

Messaging

Outside of its fledgling social network, Google actually boasts one of the biggest messaging communities in the world. The main outlet for many is Google Talk, the AIM-like instant messaging service tethered to Gmail, but Google is making waves on the mobile front with Google Voice. Aside from basic phone calls, Google Voice makes it easy to send and receive text messages from your browser. The marquee product, though, is the recently announced Google Hangouts, which could turn out to be the most important smartphone feature of all.

Telecommunications

While launching its own cable TV business would be a new adventure for Google, the company's been playing around in the broader telecommunications industry for a few years now. It all started when Google launched Google Voice, essentially rendering long distance phone companies obsolete by undercutting their rates dramatically. Google gained controls of the wires themselves last year when the company launched Google Fiber, an ultra high speed internet service first available in Kansas City. Along with Google TV, the company's current streaming TV surface, Google's drift into cable TV would just round out its offerings.

The Future

And that's all just what Google does now; who knows what comes next? Following in the footsteps of its Silicon Valley neighbor and worldwide rival Apple, the company's been getting increasingly secretive about its research and development projects. The home for many of these R&D projects is Google X, a nondescript two-story building on campus that produced such zany projects as the self-driving car. The other big project to come out of Google X is sure to shape not only the future of Google but the future of technology. It can be described in two words: Google Glass.
